Human Rights Officer, Monitoring and Investigation –Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC)

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage investigations of assigned human rights complaints.
• Contribute to decisions in consultation with Coordinators and Senior Human Rights Officers.
• Conduct monitoring of places of detention and prepare monitoring reports.
• Conduct human rights monitoring during emergencies.
• Issue recommendations and develop and implement advocacy and follow-up strategies.
• Propose areas for systemic investigation and refer them to relevant thematic functions in consultation with Senior Human Rights Officers/Coordinators.
• Manage partnerships and relationships with relevant stakeholders.
• Conduct research on human rights issues as required.
• Provide input into the revision of systems, policies, guidelines, manuals, and tools.
• Support evidence-based human rights monitoring and reporting activities.

Qualifications & Experience

Education:

• BA/LLB in Law, Human Rights Law, International Law, or related field; or
• MA/LLM in Law, Human Rights Law, International Law, or related field.

Experience:

• BA/LLB: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
• MA/LLM: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.

Other Requirements

• Computer literate.
• Knowledge of Amharic is required.
• Knowledge of other local languages is an advantage.
• Strong adaptability and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder-management skills.
